Consciousness, Memory and the Unexplained

An introductory editorial essay by Anabela Da Costa’s author website. No primary-source citations are claimed in this short piece.

Some experiences leave a lasting impression not because we understand them, but precisely because we do not. Memory gives them shape; time may change the questions we ask about them.

The language of consciousness is often used to connect unusual experiences with broad theories about reality. That conversation can be philosophically productive, provided we distinguish the experience itself from claims about its ultimate cause.

Writing offers a way to preserve uncertainty without surrendering curiosity. It is possible to take an experience seriously and still ask what other explanations might exist.
